John Dolan and I put together a new 5 week class at ICP.
The Long Run: Building A Lasting Career In Photography
Dates: February 28 – March 28, 2013
Meets: Thursdays, 6:30 PM to 9:30 PM
This class aims to empower students to build a strong foundation for a creative, productive photography career over the long haul, not just to the next assignment. The instructors’ approach focuses on the whole person, not just the photographer. The class begins with a look at photographers who have created large bodies of work from a unique, personal perspective. The instructors then help students assess the direction of their work by exploring their motivations (what makes them take a picture?), the type of pictures they would like to take but are afraid to, the constraints holding them back and the forces frustrating their creative ego, and ways to fulfill their creative aspirations. This class challenges each student’s mental, physical, and creative capacities, to merge them into a strong and balanced person producing powerful images.
